A great logo this time out for DAFFY.

Superman may have had the cartoons but Batman had the live-action serials, something The Man of Might wouldn't get for nearly a decade.

Some absolutely gorgeous Kirby art on this BOY COMMANDOS story seen below in its entirety...only it isn't Kirby! Jack was drafted a few months earlier. GCD credits Joe Simon with the art and question marks S&K studio inker Marvin Stein. Good stuff!

The early, pudgy Alfred took center stage in this story.

Seriously, what could say "Home Front" more than this lovely Jack Burnley cover?

An interesting splash credited to Ira Yarbrough and George Roussos, the latter, of course, more often associated with Batman than Superman.

Something I've noticed about the Star Spangled Kid's adventures is just how often Hal Sherman manages to obscure his heroes' faces. This is plainly evident in this particular splash page.

Oh, I recognize that lettering from last issue!

For those of you who think that the Golden Age Batman was all Dark Knighty all the time, here's an early sci-fi tale in its entirety. Story by Batman's co-created Bill Finger with art from Jerry Robinson and Fred Ray (as Bob Kane).

DC at this time was 'very unhappy about Fawcett's Captain Marvel stealing Superman's --pardon the expression--thunder. A bit odd to see the Fawcett-produced Captain Tootsie here with its CC Beck artwork.
