World's Finest # 131, February, 1963

With this ish, DC revives yet another Golden Age hero, The Crimson Avenger, but Schiff not being Schwartz, it's only as a one-off gag character. A fun story, though, with yet more distorted superheroes.

Here's the first appearance of Johnny DC, the mascot who was revived and ridiculed a number of times throughout the years. A great ad, though.

Aliens, giant monsters, yadda, yadda, yadda...

This would have been out just before Halloween. UNICEF was big at Halloween in the early sixties.

World's Finest # 129, November, 1962

Not the best designed cover ever but the story it goes to is choice so here's the whole thing. Art by Jim Mooney and Sheldon Moldoff continues to give an almost off-model look to the characters but i like it.

I read these health myths when I was 7 and took them to heart. I've known ever since that raw meat doesn't do a  thing for a black eye.

World's Finest # 128, September, 1962

Apparently the recent issue with Batman losing all perspective--aHeM!--sold well because here we go again.

Interesting that Buzzy and his pals were still being featured in these PSAs as the last issue of BUZZY had come out nearly 4 years earlier. In those days, that was time for a whole news gene ration of readers to have come along!

I feel sorry for Speedy. He'd been with Green Arrow since the beginning and never got billing and yet Aqualad, still comparatively new here, did! Again, no wonder he later turned to drugs.
