World's Finest # 274, December, 1981

The ads are creeping back in but at least it's a cool DC house ad. And it's for Gene Colan's arrival back at DC after his triumphant years at Marvel. In fact, Gene handles this issue's debut ZATANNA story featuring the lady magician in booth her classic outfit and her silly "super suit."

Part 2 of this so-so Bats/Supes adventure but we also get a new Part 1 in most of the other series, the shrinking pages necessitating more continued stories.

Here's the whole of Zatanna's tale.

Todd McFarlane (of all people) elicits the response that Plastic man will be rotating with Zatanna. He didn't.

Marvel and DC continue their collaborations and Batman's meeting with the Hulk was one of the best ones.

  1. Love the Ross Andru-Dick Giordano cover to this issue. In fact, I love the vast majority of those Andru-Giordano covers which get next to no coverage in comic media or on comic blogs. Ed Hannigan was another who contributed numerous quality covers to DC Comics during this time.

Great blog you have here. I wish I'd found it sooner.
