World's Finest # 83, July/August, 1956

In spite of the fact that only one month is listed on the cover beginning with this issue, the title remains bi-monthly for another couple of years yet. Alan Kupperberg tells me, "I am assuming that was the month that DC started using the system whereby if the title were bimonthly the month would appear in a box. Monthly titles had their month unboxed. The month in the box was always the later month. I'm pretty sure that DC did this so the comics were not taken off the stands to be returned a month too early."
Thanks, Alan!

A great, fun cover and story as well!

Even the red-hatted GA and Speedy story is fun this ish.

This contest wa sa really big deal for DC at the time and undoubtedly gave them some idea of how many readers they still had after the comic book industry purges and negative publicity of the previous few years.

Oh, yeah, and Tomahawk appeared as well. I swear, I've tried. I don't hate the feature. I just can't get into it.

  1. Thanks for posting the "5000 Prizes" ad. I've wondered about that contest. I understand that there are fans who collect the "5000 Prizes" DC issues.
