World's Finest # 35, July/August, 1948

Maybe it's just me but i really like this cover (although I'd prefer a slightly better color scheme for the background and a better suit for Bruce). Just as last issue's Superman story was obviously Plastino, this one is equally obviously Wayne Boring who was by now considered THE Superman artist (while Curt Swan was still warming up in the wings on this issue's BOY COMMANDOS story).

Judy, Buzzy, Binky...in lieu of an immediately obvious post-war trend, DC was even jumping on the Archie bandwagon. 

The radio comics might have been a great idea if not for television's belated arrival. Can you imagine say an X MINUS ONE comic from DC?

One again GA faces "that baleful buffoon, Bull's Eye." AKA his "Joker."

And the Penguin, another of the Caped Crusader's most prolific enemies, makes his WF debut with this issue. 

Wow. The ad below is not really the most awe-inspiring ad ever.

World's Finest # 34, May/June, 1948

 More frivolity up front but a rather serious BATMAN story for a change at the end of this issue. The Superman story is fun, though, with rather obvious art by Al Plastino who would become a longtime SUPERMAN artist as well as drawing the BATMAN newspaper strip in the early seventies. While Plastino receives no credit here, you'll note that with this issue we also lose the Siegel and Shuster credit. This was, of course, due to Jerry's perfectly understandable attempt to legally get a little more out of his baby which had become DC's cash cow.

Wow. After one issue, the TOMAHAWK strip gets moved up to second position.

Back to Swan on BOY COMMANDOS.

The GA stories were starting to get more and more outlandish as would BATMAN later on. Here's a whole one with some lovely George Papp art. Papp was never a showy artist but he offers some impressive page layouts here and, as always, some unique faces.

World's Finest # 33, March/April, 1948

Some fun stories this time out but nothing special except the first WF appearance of TOMAHAWK. We lose the rotating Jack Farr feature to make the room.

World's Finest # 32, January/February, 1948

It may look like business as usual from this silly cover but there are a few changes this issue. The first thing one notices is that Win Mortimer now takes over as cover artist. The next is that the inside cover is no longer a contents page but now a paid ad. The indicia, once at the bottom of that page, moves to the bottom of the first page. Eventually all comics would have it there but it was still a rarity here.

The next thing a regular reader would have noticed is that it's BATMAN, not SUPERMAN, who's up first this issue. Not sure why the change but that particular switch switches back next ish.
